Nowadays when the Coronavirus is always on the agenda, we will examine whether our dear friend cats carry Coronavirus or not.

Many of us are working from home or taking compulsory leave because of Coronavirus measures. Therefore, we spend our time at home almost 24 hours and see our dear friends more often.

Do Cats Get Coronavirus?

Although cats could get Coronavirus, it is totally different strain that means it is not the same as Covid-19 Coronavirus. Technically cat Coronavirus cannot spread from cats to humans or humans to cats.

Coronavirus in cats can mutate and causes a fatal disease called FIP. This virus can be transmitted from cat to cat through feces and saliva. Common symptoms are cold and flu.

Is It Possible Humans To Be Infected From Cat Corona?

No, it is not possible, because cat Coronavirus cannot pass to humans through breathing or blood. As the cat Coronavirus and human Coronavirus are different strains, no single case of infection is reported.

Could cats carry the virus on their furs?

It is very unlikely to cats carry the virus on their furs. Because licking itself provide some level of hygiene. Washing hands after petting them is enough for precaution.

How Cats Are Protected From Coronavirus?

The following measures should be taken for cats from the virus, which can be transmitted through feces and saliva.
Cleaning: Litter box, food bowl and playground cleaning are important. These environments should be cleaned regularly with antibacterial cleaning materials.
Nutrition: It is important that the cat is fed with the right food to get the necessary nutrients and, if necessary, use additional foods with the advice of a veterinarian.
Stress: High stress is the one of the biggest factors in transforming Coronavirus into FIP. Good mental health of cat is essential both overcoming the diseases quickly and not catching illness. Keeping the cat away from situations and objects that deteriorates psychology of the cat, such as vacuum cleaner, disturbance while playing or sleeping are the measures for the stress.
